7 Daily Prompts to Promote a More Positive Experience
I am getting ready to complete 7-days together (virtually) with several friends (some new, some lifetime) working through activities to improve self-esteem. The feedback has been both eye opening and inspiring. Eye opening to see how many have struggled with the daily tasks because they have required self-reflection and identifying unique and special things about each of them. Inspiring to hear feedback and thoughts about the challenge because, even when difficult, many DID it anyway.
Self-esteem is how you value or perceive yourself. It’s based on your opinions and beliefs about yourself. It’s subjective and is often your sense of overall personal worth and value. Key elements of self-esteem include self-confidence, feelings of security, a sense of belonging, and feelings of competence. Self-esteem influences motivation, as people with a healthy, positive view of themselves understand their potential and may feel inspired to take on new challenges. It impacts decision-making, relationships, emotional and mental health, and overall well-being and quality of life.
As low self-esteem can lead to feeling unloved or inadequate; high self-esteem is key to positive mental health, helping you develop coping skills, handling adversity, and putting the negative into perspective.
While everyone lacks confidence occasionally, people with ongoing low self-esteem tend to feel unhappy or unsatisfied with themselves. Low self-esteem can be remedied but it takes attention and daily practice. It takes acknowledgement and intentionality.
After hearing feedback from the challenge group, I decided to share a week’s worth of activities with you – 7 daily activities to promote a more positive self-esteem experience. I encourage you to do one per day and to grab a notebook and/or lose paper and writing utensil of choice to write down your responses to the following:
- Name 3 people whose lives are made easier because of your presence – elaborate or simply list them.
- Write 3 achievements you are proud of.
- Write 10 strengths and talents you have.
- Write 3 compliments that make you feel good.
- Ask a friend or loved one to name 3 strengths that you have and write them down.
- Compliment a stranger today – write down how it felt and a bit about the experience.
- Have breakfast, lunch, or tea /coffee alone in a nice setting and enjoy your own company. Write about your favorite parts about it.
When all 7 activities have been completed (and hopefully journaled) hang on to them. Reread them as often as needed. Allow them to remind you of your own personal (and special) reasons for being in this world. I, for one, am grateful that you are part of my world!
