…Together
I often write about the premise behind what I do – focusing on overall well-being through 5 fields of health (emotional, mental, physical, financial, and spiritual). I don’t often talk about the services I offer to help through these fields or where I do most of this work.
First, where. Any services I offer can be done anywhere and with an individual or any size group. However, I have a special place of my own for 1:1 and small group meetings. It is called The Lotus House, a cozy shed in my home’s backyard, adorned in black and white décor, with the necessary equipment, quaintness, and love for a true mindful experience. All ages and people of all walks of life are welcome. Together, we may push outside of your comfort zone, for the greatest potential of growth and healing.
The namesake of The Lotus House – the lotus flower, which starts off as a bud underwater, often in murky ponds rooted in mud, and grows until it emerges from the muddy waters into a beautiful blooming flower. With the following three main principles in mind:
God’s Beautiful Creation and Renewal – The life cycle of the flower, slowly rising from muddy waters and into a beautiful flower. The murky waters representing struggles of life, the bud of the flower a person who has not yet reached their full potential, the blossoming lotus flower above the water someone who has achieved peace and happiness and let go of worldly suffering through God’s love and being shielded by His spiritual renewal.
Purity, Strength, and Resilience – The lotus flower emerges from murky waters perfectly clean and beautiful. Representing hope and strength to people struggling in their daily lives – a symbol showing that, no matter where you start out in life and no matter what you’re going through (the mud), you have the ability to rise above, overcome negativity, and find peace as you emerge from your struggles (the lotus). Throughout the process of the bud pushing through the murky waters, the petals of the flower are never touched or affected by the water – the center remains uncontaminated throughout its unpleasant journey; symbolic of God’s ultimate protection and pure love and the strength and resilience found through Him.
Personal Progress – The lotus flower has many petals that surround the center in multiple concentric layers. As the petals close at night and open at the start of each day, more and more petals are revealed until the lotus flower is in full bloom above the murky water and all the layers are revealed. A beautiful metaphor for the progress made in gradual stages to self-realization and the multiple layers of our “messiness” that can rise above murky times of life – slowly and intentionally; beautiful, clean, and strong. Going back in to “rest” at night and coming back out the next day, stronger (and willing to reveal more layers) than the day before. A beautiful work in progress, never done growing.
I keep the metaphor of the lotus flower and the experiences of all I work with in mind as we, together, push through (and not around) life and any of its challenges.
Secondly, how. The following services are offered within this space, any space of choosing, or even virtually for those not in the same area or mobile. Prior to working together, a free consultation is always offered to get to know each other a bit better and identify how to best meet your specific needs/goals. Some know when they call what they would like. For others, this consultation helps identify which service or combination of services, suggested session time – usually anything from 15-90 minutes, whether you would like a single session or a bundle, etc. No matter the service, each session typically starts with a quick check-in on how you’re feeling both emotionally and physically. For this reason, I enter in each session prepared, but rarely with a set agenda or plan so that I can best meet your needs at that moment. No matter the day or need, each class is geared to be effective, authentic, and you will usually get a bit of my fun “peppery” spunk added in.
Services include:
Yoga
I tend to have more of a non-traditional approach to yoga instruction, still promoting a connection with the mind and body and making sure to keep your personal needs in mind. It is less of a common “yogi spiritual experience,” and more of a personal stretching session. Since we start each session/class with a quick check-in on how you’re feeling both emotionally and physically, things can change from class to class and we, together, adjust and modify accordingly. Meeting the level you are at or desire, this can include a day of more intense stretching and poses or a mild, more relaxing day of stretching, breathwork, etc. No matter, most sessions end with a time to simply “be” – still with your own breath and refreshed for whatever comes next.
Aside from a general yoga instructing certification, I am certified in trauma-sensitive yoga, trauma informed yoga for youth, Fitness Yoga™, and Yoga Strong™.
Mindfulness
Being present in the moment, without judgment, the goal of mindfulness isn’t to control your thoughts, but more to stop them from controlling you.
Connecting with yourself – mind and body; with others; with places and experiences. Together we will work through the journey of living mindfully – to put aside self-doubt or shame, to turn attention to who you truly are and want to be. We will not aim to control, remove, or “fix” unpleasant experiences; but develop skills to work through them. My approach to mindfulness can benefit all ages – youth to adults. It does not require any specific talent, vocation, spiritual, or philosophical viewpoint; simply a mind, open to what may arise.
I am expert level certified in meditation and hold certifications in Peace in Schools and Mindfulness Tools for Social Emotional Learning.
Tapping
There is TFT (Thought Field Therapy) Tapping, focusing on specific points on the body based on a specific issue/need, and there is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Tapping. I am master certified in EFT Tapping, a mind-body practice that combines acupoint stimulation and cognitive restructuring (talking through triggering emotions in an accepting way) to reduce the impact of traumatic experiences.
When working through a Tapping session together, we would identify your specific struggles and goals for that day, with your overall needs in mind, and dive deeper into and work through them. Whether in one session or a bundle, this process allows for the emotional intensity to deflate and the grip of whatever you may be struggling with to melt away. We dive deeper into the root of issues and/or emotions using specific tapping points and statements and, together, we can work through things like anxiety, depression, past trauma, pain, food cravings, forgiveness, and so much more using this validated evidence-based practice.
This is Living Healthy in Five Fields, LLC in a nutshell – for now, ever-evolving…just like all of us. Whether 2 miles away or 200, I’m grateful for being on this journey with you and would love the opportunity to work together on a deeper level.
