People are often resistant to change, not realizing that change itself is constant. Even if you resist or avoid it, it will enter your life just the same.
At first it can be difficult or annoying but, with time and an open mind, it can bring great things – personal growth, flexibility, improvement, strength, progress, opportunities, new beginnings, and so much more. Here are a few ways to help welcome change and maybe even create it on your own, without it catching you off-guard:
- Identify and understand what you want to change – by identifying what/where you would like to see change, you help determine the direction in which it goes.
- Rid your life of negativity – change itself can be hard enough, keeping a negative mindset or negative people around you will only make it worse. Allow in a positive mindset and outlook.
- Be kind to yourself and others – giving yourself some grace and kindness will help you process change.
- Build a support network – you don’t have to do “change” alone. In fact, change is said to be more likely to happen with a support team surrounding you.
- Eliminate the nonessentials – sometimes you can “clutter” your life with things and people you think you “need” …take a healthy evaluation and proceed with the essentials. This will also help you focus on the change itself and not get distracted.
- Take baby steps – change takes time…and patience…and effort. Celebrate the process, even the little steps.
- Don’t compare yourself to others, this is YOUR journey. Comparison is said to be the thief of joy and a distraction in your life. Remember, you may be comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle.
Through all of this, keep in mind the quote “as long as you’re still breathing, it’s not too late to change your story.” If you’re reading this, you are still breathing, and your story is not done being written! Some of it has been written for you…the ending is yours to create and choose.
